Colin Queen: It’s not over yet! My post-race thoughts on Brands Hatch

This weekend’s race at Brands Hatch was a tough one. We had 2 test days before qualifying, which went very well up until the last session on Friday where I got into an unfortunate accident damaging my car. The mechanics at LDR did a fantastic job of fixing it and was ready for qualifying Saturday morning.

Qualifying wasn’t what we hoped for. With my first session in the rain I had to pick the track up in very few laps. I started race 1 in 10th. The first race went very well. I got a good start followed up with making great passes making my way up to 5th half way through the race. The front pack was virtually gone and I had to defend in order to get the best result possible. I eventually got passed by Thomas Mills and held 6th finishing right in front of Joey Foster. It was some tough racing but managed to get a good result.

The second race was a rain race. I got a decent start but quickly got passed by Foster. We were nearing the end of the lap when there was a spin in front of me on the exit of Surtees. I tried to avoid it but there was nowhere to go. I broke my rear wishbone and was out of the race. My teammate Max Esterson also had a DNF, which meant we would be starting right next to each other for the third race

I had a lot of work to get done if I wanted the weekend to end off on a high note. Starting 16th. I made my way through the field like there was no tomorrow. I seized every opportunity to pass and drove as best I could. I made up a total of 9 positions, and caught right up to the front pack and finished 7th right behind Max.

We showed great pace and improvement this weekend, have proven that I can run up front and battle for the podium positions, but I am not getting the results. I can’t thank the LDR team enough for their amazing dedication and support, as well as the incredible coaching from Kelvin Burt.

There are definitely some key takeaways from this weekend, and hopefully will get much better results at Oulton Park in September.
