Colin Queen ends GB4 season with Donington double podium

Colin Queen brought down the curtain on his 2023 GB4 Championship campaign in fine fashion, with a double podium finish at Donington Park last weekend [21-22 October].

The Fortec Motorsport ace arrived at the East Midlands venue looking to add a final flourish to an impressive maiden season in ‘slicks and wings’, with eight podium finishes to-date in a competitive field.

After showing good pace throughout practice, the 18-year-old from Florida put himself in the frame for a competitive race day, securing third on the grid. Despite suffering damage at the chicane whilst running up at the sharp end in the opening race, Queen then expertly managed the car to bring home crucial points in seventh.

With a chance to repair the damage, Queen was then able to go on and give a more representative showing for his pace in the remaining two races on Sunday.

In race two, lightning reflexes from Queen promoted the US racer to second spot on the run down to Redgate corner. However, Queen’s attempts to then chase down the leader were hampered not once, but twice, by safety car interventions for incidents further down the field.

That meant Queen was forced to settle for the runner up spot, but he had every opportunity to showcase his overtaking prowess in an action-packed final reverse grid race of the season.

Starting ninth, Queen superbly cut his way through the field, from ninth spot on the grid to finish second once more. It marked a tenth podium of the year, and a silverware-laden end to an impressive debut campaign at this level of the sport.

He also secured the Sunoco Fastest Lap of the weekend with a time of 1m29.613s, cementing his status as one of the series’ leading talents on both one-lap pace and race craft.

At the end of the campaign, Queen sits fourth overall in the championship standings, whilst his efforts also went a long way to securing second in the Teams’ Championship for Fortec.

Queen’s 2024 racing plans will be announced in due course over the coming months.

Colin Queen (#62) said:

“Overall, I’m satisfied to be coming away from Donington Park with another two podiums. To end the year on the podium, and also to be recognised as the fastest driver of the weekend, really demonstrates the progress we’ve made over the season, and where I’ve developed as a driver.

“We definitely had the pace to be running up front all weekend – we didn’t get the chance to show that with some damage in race one, but to be able to charge through the field in race three against the odds makes up for that, in a way. It was certainly a fun race to be a part of!

“For now, though, I’m really looking forward to heading back to the States, spending some quality time with friends and family, then preparing for the next stage in my career. A huge thanks to the Fortec Motorsport team, my sponsors and everyone who has supported me this season.”
