Silverware streak continues for Colin Queen at Snetterton

Colin Queen made it five podiums in the last seven races after another impressive weekend [17-18 June] in the GB4 Championship at a sun-soaked Snetterton.

The US rising star made the trip to the 2.99-mile Norfolk circuit keen to build on another starring role at Donington Park a few weeks prior, in which the 18-year-old scored another hat-trick of podium appearances.

In a hotly-contested qualifying session – including a new lap record for the championship – Queen headed up the second row of the grid, with third. In race trim, the South California native widely impressed once again, keeping title rivals Cooper Webster and Tom Mills honest throughout the first 18-minute contest.

On a circuit where overtaking opportunities often come at a premium, a risk-free chance to pass never quite materialised. Queen kept the pressure on Mills for second for the duration, the two taking the chequered flag just 0.3 seconds apart.

It was a similar story in Race 2, with Queen third once more, but comfortably 12 seconds clear of the rest of the pack as part of a break-away top three.

But in the final race, with a reversed grid, Queen was finally able to demonstrate his overtaking prowess, scaling the order from ninth to fifth in a typically boisterous end to the weekend amongst the stars of tomorrow.

The results cement Queen’s third place in the championship standings, and similarly contributed to Fortec Motorsport’s second spot in the Teams’ stakes, as they look to chase down leaders KMR Sport.

Queen now returns back to Florida for a brief summer break with family, before returning to the UK for the final three events of the 2023 season, starting at Silverstone GP on 29-30 July.

Colin Queen (#62) said:
“It’s frustrating that we didn’t quite get the win we were aiming for coming into this weekend, but it’s another consistent haul of points, and two podiums.”

“We had great pace throughout the weekend, but on this circuit it’s so crucial to optimise the first couple of laps and make up some ground, and after qualifying we just had a little too much to do, on that front.”

“A huge thanks to the team though, for all their hard work. We’re consistently at the front of the grid every weekend now, and it’s definitely a case of ‘when, not if’ for that first win, so I’ll keep pushing hard to make it a reality.”

“For now, though, it’s time to fly back home and have a bit of a summer break, and then come back to the UK re-focused and committed as ever for Silverstone and beyond.”
